Syllabus:Collection development - written collection development policies, collection measurement and evaluation, the Distributed National Collection, the national library and information infrastructure, user evaluation, selection procedure, selection aids, document delivery, alternative forms of publication and access, electronic periodicals, aggregation, consortia, storage and retrieval of collections, weeding-preservation and conservation, censorship.
 
Unit Outcomes: On completion of this unit students will have the knowledge and skills necessary to- Make assessments as to the current value of a library collection. Select material appropriate to the needs of a particular user group. Develop and manage a collection ofprinted and electronic material held by a library or information centre. Consider that particular collection in the context of national and international collections. Use emerging information technologies in order to supplement locally held collections.
