Syllabus: | Design Research Seminar is a formal course work unit and the student is required to attend weekly seminars. Each seminar is comprised of lecturer facilitated and student led seminar discussions exploring issues raised initially in a variety of set texts.The set texts will be on issues of contemporary cultural practice, which in some way affects design and its practitioners. Following the work on the set texts, students are encouraged to present articles and book chapters for consideration by the group. Areas worthy of discussion include: contemporary cultural theorists, feminist issues, politics in design, professionalism and other theoretical topics, which deepen our understanding of design and its place in society. |

Unit Outcomes: | On successful completion of this unit, students will have - Articulated an understanding of critical social and theoretical issues confronting the design profession. Discussed, analysed and critiqued issues presented in the students selected text. Engaged in intellectual theoretical discussion. |
