Syllabus:	Beliefs and principles which underpin the Mathematics Learning Area. Children's construction of mathematics. Properties of the number system. Measurement and the metric system. Problem-solving and using technology in teaching mathematics. Developmental approaches to learning mathematics.
Unit Outcomes:	On successful completion of this unit students will have- Demonstrated an understanding of modern, effective, teaching principles for mathematics learning. Demonstrated an understanding of how to analyse critically a variety of materials and activities that promote mathematics learning. Demonstrated an ability to plan a sequence of lessons in mathematics. Revised and consolidated aspects of their mathematics content knowledge. Begun to incorporate the Working Mathematically Strand into the plans for mathematics teaching and learning.

Unit Assessment Breakdown:	Homework Tasks 25%, Teaching Assignment with Children 45%, Essay 30%, Workshop Participation (Pass/Fail). Each part of the assessment package must be passed to receive an overall pass grade for the unit. This is done by grade/mark assessment.
