Syllabus:	Theories of gender and sexuality exploring ways in which a culture produces, maintains and transforms its understandings of gender, desire, the body and sexuality. Study of gender through the reading of various narrative texts. The theory, structures andhistory of narrative and its relationship to cultural change. Representations of gender in the contexts of modernity and postmodernity in contemporary texts.
Unit Outcomes:	On successful completion of this unit, students will have- An understanding of theories of gender and sexuality. An understanding of the concept of narrative in relation to culture. An understanding of the concept of cultural instrumentality. An understanding of the key terms informing the field of narrative theory. Read a range of genres in relation to the above concepts.
