Syllabus:An introduction to the concepts and practice of efficient, effective and accountable recordkeeping in a variety of organisational contexts. Includes records and recordkeeping, recordkeeping systems and programs or frameworks, life cycle and continuum theory, and basic processes such as inventories and forms, correspondence control, reports management, records housing and storage, appraisal and retention and disposal. Lectures, seminars and site visits are included.
 
Unit Outcomes: On completion of this unit students will have - Demonstrated an ability to set recordkeeping within the context of total information flow and use within an organisation. Demonstrated an understanding of recordkeeping, the systems approach to records management and the role records management plays in organisational efficiency, effectiveness and accountability. Developed an understanding and basic proficiency in the practical skills required for the management of organisational records, whatever the format. Demonstrated an understanding of the processes and issues associated with their management and protection as identified in the relevant standards.
