Syllabus:

Mental health assessment. Models of psychiatric nursing practice. Communication and therapeutic relationship. Crisis Intervention. Treatment modalities. Legal, ethical and consumer issues. Dysfunction related to mental illness. Community and family issues. Mental health rehabilitation. Ageing and psychiatric behaviours. Forensic nursing. Analysis of issues related to research and treatment.

Unit Outcomes:

On successful completion of this unit students will have - Demonstrated achievement of competencies in specified clinical placement. Used appropriate therapeutic communication in client care. Assessed and recognised mental status dysfunction. Interacted within the multi-disciplinary team. Used research in implementing nursing care.
