Syllabus:Supervised practice, 150 hours of counselling, community development of general social work nature within a human service agency, including direct service provision, program development, social policy and administration. Students must satisfactorily complete practice activities, on-campus seminar attendance and all written requirements. Placements with employers may be negoitated.
 
Unit Outcomes: On successful completion of this unit, students will have- Understood the purpose and role of the placement organisation and its relationship to the broader social, economic and political context and to critically analyse the organisation's role. Identified the needs for purpose, scope and limits of social work involvement with the client's interest. Established and maintained effective working relationship with others in order to meet the client's interest. Analysed and assessed social needs, selected appropriate intervention strategies from a range of options and planned for and put these into operation, including the ability to practice different forms of social work intervention, case work, family work, group work, community work, social policy practice and research. Utilised a wide range of social work skills including supporting, enabling, networking, counselling, brokering, mediating, advocating, educating, program development, policy critique and policy development. Demonstrated clear, fluent andeffective interpersonal communication and written communication. Identified and applied a range of social work theories and theoretical perspectives form the social and behavioural sciences in practice situations.
