Syllabus: | Pathophysiology. Oxygenation - lung function and dysfunction, lifestyle factors. Elimination, alterations in normal patterns. Metabolism and nutrition - alterations in normal patterns. Metabolism and nutrition - alterations in normal patterns. Mobility -life style adaptations. Homeostasis - Blood pressure control, fluid and electrolyte balance. Body defence - wound healing. Pain response. Antimicrobial resistance. Pharmacology, pharmacodynamics and pharmacology related to selected disease states. |

Unit Outcomes: | On successful completion of this unit students will have - Demonstrated the ability to describe physiological adaptations across the lifespan. Demonstrated the capacity to apply relevant pathophysiology to nursing practice. Examined microbiological principles and their application to nursing practice. Demonstrated the ability to relate pharmacology principles to relevant client groups. |
