Syllabus:Ontogony and phylogony. Compensation and pathomechanics of the developing skeleton. Orthopedic care, foot orthoses and shoe design. Child psychology. Epidemiology. Practice management.
 
Unit Outcomes: On successful completion of this unit students will have - Applied the principles of paediatrics to the podiatric care and treatment of children. Discussed the popular theories of ontogeny and phlogeny with specific reference to the lower limb. Related the aetiological factors and pathological changes occurring in the lower limb of the child and compared these to the adult. Applied the principles of paediatrics to the treatment and care of a select set of case histories - normal child, child living with cerebral palsy and a young person with Down's Syndrome. Planned and prepared a small project involving epidemiology and other quantitative assessments and reported the results. Planned, conducted and reported a series of clinical case histories.
