| Syllabus: | Study of drama as a genre, focusing on selected texts from various periods. The theory, structure and history of the genre will be studied in the context of drama as performance and institution within larger cultural formations. |

| Unit Outcomes: | On successful completion of this unit, students will have- An understanding of why and how performance has become a central metaphor in Western culture. Analysed how performance has been used to deconstruct dominant modes of representation. Studied performance conventions, their use of real and imagined spaces and the role of spectators in creating performance events. Analysed how theatre takes place in active interplay with cultures and communities. |
