Syllabus:Theory and practice of writing poetry. Critical workshop discussion.
 
Unit Outcomes: On successful completion of this unit, students will have- Attained a working knowledge of a range of poetic forms, for example sonnets, blank verse, dramatic monologue, varieties of 'free' verse, haiku, villanelles. Developed the confidence to attempt to work in as many of these verse forms as possible. Examined poems in English from the 16th century to the present day, from the traditional to the avant-garde.
