| Syllabus: | Introduction to descriptive statistics as well as the SPSS computer based statistical package. Selected topics covered include - measurement, central tendency and variability, the normal distribution , Z-scores, the t-test, one way analysis of variance, bivariate correlation and regression, the chi-square tests and nonparametric alternatives. |

| Unit Outcomes: | On completion of this unit students will be able to - Distinguish between descriptive and inferential statistics. Gain the ability to present data in the most appropriate descriptive format. Demonstrate a working knowledge of basic null hypothesis significance testing procedures, including being able to select the most appropriate statistical test for a variety of data sets. Gain practical experience in using SPSS for the purposes of data entry, graphing, descriptive and inferential statistical analysis. Present the results of statistical analysis in an APA standard results section. |
