Syllabus: | Animate and inanimate causes of maladies in plants, elements of plant pathology, life cycles and symptoms of major pathogens, soil borne nursery diseases, control of major pathogens, life cycles and symptoms of major pests, prevention of diseases and pests, the basis of resistance and susceptibility in plants. Review of chemical, biological and bioenvironmental control methods. Recognition of diseases. Insect pests. Major groups of plant pathogens. Management of pests and pathogens. |

Unit Outcomes: | On successful completion of this unit students will have gained the ability to recognize diseased plants and be able to determine the cause of the disease. They will have gained knowledge of how pathogens infect plants and how this knowledge can be usedto minimize their effects, as well as laboratory skills in the examination of plant pathogen.. |
