Syllabus: | Pronunciation, intonation, voice quality, spelling, sound systems. Grammar, sentence structures, syntax and morphology. Word meanings, semantics. Languages which students may focus on - English, Chinese, Indonesian, Japanese, Korean and Thai. |

Unit Outcomes: | On completion of this unit, students will develop skills in - Transcribing english phonetically. Recognising word classes and grammatical structures. Using the internet to search for information about languages. They will also develop an awareness of - Phonemic, syntactic and semantic analysis. Good second language learning practice. Problems facing second language learners. |
