Syllabus:The course is intended to complement students' major degree courses and is tailored to vocational needs. It includes - principles of effective communication, principles of correct usage, principles of sound argument, study and notetaking skills, writing of journal articles, decimal notation, principles of report writing, oral presentations, preparation of summaries and precis, business letters and resumes, library research skills, principles of correct citation, referencing and bibliography.
 
Unit Outcomes: On successful completion of this unit, students will have- Planned and organised ideas effectively in writing in order to develop a sound argument. Written in clear and concise English. Used language and tone appropriate to a given aim and audience. Delivered an effective oral presentation. Accessed information for research purposes, particularly using electronic media such as library databases, electronic databases and the Internet. Demonstrated an awareness of the need for academic honesty and referenced their sources competently.
