Syllabus: | Industrial ecology - origin and application for eco-industrial parks. Theory and practical application of industrial metabolism and substance flow analysis including ecological footprint analysis and material input analysis. Global sustainability models and roadmaps including natural step, natural capitalism. Role of technology and consumption for achieving sustainable development. Students are to attend a three hour lecture once every three weeks. |

Unit Outcomes: | On completion of this unit students will have - Acquainted themselves with the concept of Industrial Ecology, it's application to production and consumption systems and is implications for corporate environmental management. Acquired an appreciation forcommonly used guiding principles derived from the industrial ecology concept - natural step, factor X, zero emissions, sustainable technology development and understood the principles and tools used in key areas of the current application of the Industrial Ecology concept - substance flow analysis, industrial metabolism byproduct synergy. |
