Lecture:2 x 3 Hours Quarterly
Syllabus:Introduction to Ecological Principles covering natural cycles, biogeochemical processes, ecological concepts and relationships. Environmental Pressures in Australian and Global Context - population, consumption, energy and materials use. State of the Australian Environment with regard to atmosphere and Air Quality, Water, Rivers, Wetlands and Coasts, and Biodiversity and Land Management. Students are to attend a 3 hour lecture once every three weeks.
 
Unit Outcomes: On successful completion of this unit students will have - An appreciation of key ecological concepts and principles, and their application for the analysis of environmental impacts caused by production and consumption. Understood major environmental impact categories caused by industrial development at the local, regional, national and global levels and become familiar with the status of the Australian environment and its key threats.
