Syllabus:

An overview of the management of the one person library and the qualities required of the one person librarian. Competencies and efficiencies required in managing an information service under what can often be very challenging conditions.

Unit Outcomes:

On successful completion of this unit, students will have- An awareness of the tasks and issues involved in establishing a specialised information centre. An awareness of some of the techniques used in establishing procedures for such a centre. An awareness of the importance of planning and time management to the OPL. An awareness of issues which need to be considered in establishing systems. An awareness of the importance of compromise in information centre management. An awareness of the role of networking and resource sharing. An awareness of some issues in archiving and preserving corporate information. An awareness of organisational culture and where the OPL fits within it.
