Syllabus:The investigation, research, critical evaluation, analysis, design and prototype development of a nominated engineering activity.
 
Unit Outcomes: On successful completion of this unit students will gain an appreciation of what professional life is about and an assessment of the student's potential as a professional. More specifically they will independently gain an understanding of knowledge in a particular area enabling them to perform to professional standards, they will be given an opportunity to show initiative and creativity, further developing application skills in all levels of design, development of test skills in the context of a complex problem, development of project management skills, and development of skills in dealing with complexity. They will also learn to appreciate the need for planning in engineering and attention to detail, to appreciate the importance of specifications and standards in engineering and to appreciate why change is endemic in engineering and so the importance of coping with change through self-learning.
