Syllabus: | The opportunity to engage with current issues and debates that are topical to discussions of design both within an academic context and within more general discussions in the media. Examination of the issues that surround your own practice and debates those issues with others in a series of structured seminars. Practice and improve presentation skills through presentations at seminars and throughout the initiation of discussion topics. This work will provide contextual background material for the development of the proposal for the Design Project work that is initiated in the Design Project Development unit. Debates about the relevance of design research to practice as they take place within the international professional design community. |

Unit Outcomes: | On completion of this unit students will have - Demonstrated understanding of contextual issues relating to design in its social and cultural context. Written coherently about design and design research. Reflected on own professional practice. Gained understanding of the importance of ethical and philosophical considerations in design related activites. |
