Syllabus:

Students will undertake a number of staff initiated projects, working in two and three dimensions, through which they will explore a range of visual problems associated with form, communication and personal expression. Basic skills in painting, drawing, printmaking, sculpture, textiles, jewellery, clay and glass together with traditional media will be introduced. Students will develop a portfolio of work demonstrating their competence in traditional and contemporary technologies.

Unit Outcomes:

On successful completion of this unit, students will have- The ability to work with a wide range of materials and make appropriate choices. The ability to manipulate materials to solve problems set in workshop sessions. Identified and developed imaginative ideas and strategies for the conceptualisation and making of art work. Demonstrated new skills and an understanding of appropriate processes in exploring and making art works. Successfully completed set projects using appropriate techniques and raw materials.
