Syllabus:Negotiated study program where students write their own contract in consultation with staff and a set of given projects. They have the opportunity to evolve, from the broad range of experience offered in the course, an individual plan for the execution of a body of work to be exhibited at the end of a year. Students are counselled in the development and planning stages and further support (conceptual and practical) is given in the resolution of ideas. Considerable attention is given to professional practice in Department programs to assist the student's transition to independent practice.
 
Unit Outcomes: On successful completion of this unit, students will have- Developed an advanced level of knowledge and skills related to professional practice as a contemporary jeweller. Developed and understanding of efficient production methods for small batch manufacture of contemporary jewellery. Selected, analysed and developed ideas for the design and making of contemporary precious jewellery. Developed an appropriate level of independent judgement and commitment in the successful initiation and progress of practical projects. Developed drawing skills and quality of presentation. Developed an awareness of the cultural and commercial contexts of contemporary jewellery. Linked practical projects of this unit with the requirements of the theoretical unit. Developedan awareness of safe work practices in the operation of a jewellery workshop.
