Syllabus:Directed study and research. Definitions of terrestrial coordinate systems and reference frames. Coordinate transformations between geodetic datums - Molodenskii, Bursa-Wolf. Multiple regression equations. Map projection theory - conformity, differential geometry. Map projection types - conical, cylindrical, azimuthal. Choosing optimal projections. Case studies of projections used in Australia and overseas.
 
Unit Outcomes: On completion of this unit students will have - Acquired technological and information literacy skills and written and oral communication skills, shown an improved capacity for critical, creative and analytical thinking, the ability to work independentlyand collaboratively.
