Syllabus:Focus on the theories, processes and applications of teacher professional development. Special attention is given to appraisal and supervision, collegiality and effective group work practices. Examination of current initiatives with a particular focus on reflective practice, coaching and mentoring. Participants develop the knowledge and skills needed to facilitate the professional growth of others.
 
Unit Outcomes: On successful completion of this unit students will have- Identified the changing nature of teachers work, professional career patterns and school reform. Understood how the changing profession of teaching is influencing contemporary teacher professionaldevelopment. Described the characteristics of lifelong learning and the education of adults. Understood professional development from an adult education perspective. Described the attributes of successful teacher professional development programs. Appreciated the need for evaluating professional development and understood and the procedures for conducting such evaluations.
