Syllabus:

Human sacramentality and celebration - the role of sign, symbol, myth and ritual. Jesus and the church as sacraments. Theological approaches to the sacraments. Liturgy in the life of the Catholic Christian community. The link between theology and liturgical practice. The individual sacraments. Dynamics, roles and skills involved in liturgical celebration. The role of art, music, drama, space, silence and symbols. Models of liturgy - liturgy in practice.

Unit Outcomes:

On successful completion of this unit students will have- Demonstrated a clear understanding of the contribution of symbol, myth and ritual to religious celebration. Communicated an awareness of the development in theological understanding of sacraments.Recognized Christian Sacraments as including all the ways by which God communicates his presence in the world. Illustrated how sacramental and liturgical practices have been renewed in accordance with theological understandings. Demonstrated a critical awareness of the dynamic elements involved in liturgical celebration. Illustrated that Christian Liturgy and Christian living are inter dependent.
