Syllabus: | A series of workshop activities drawn from drawing, painting, printmaking, papermaking, ceramics, three-dimensional construction, felting and other activities which are appropriate for use in early childhood and primary education. In addition, teaching strategies related to exercises and integration with other curriculum areas, as well as the development of visual literacy with children, are explored. |

Unit Outcomes: | On successful completion of this unit students will have- Understood the elements of the visual arts language - line, colour, texture, shape, space, light, form and value; and design principles that include balance, unity, contrast, pattern, emphasis, proportion, scale, movement and rhythm. Experienced a range of media and techniques suited to different levels of children in the primary school. Demonstrated a variety of teaching and housekeeping strategies, therefore providing students with a basic understanding of the skills that will assist them to become effective teachers of art and craft. Encouraged an awareness of how art can be integrated with other subjects in the Primary curriculum thus enhancing art and the other subjects involved. Reflected, described, analysed, interpreted and evaluated their own artwork and those of others. Developed a positive attitudes towards art and crafts as an essential part of the school curriculum. |
