Syllabus:

Provide students with an overview of the historical foundation of children's literature. Students will study a wide range of literacy genre as they explore the use of literature in the classroom. The cultural diversity of children's literature will be examined through the study of Australian and international authors and texts.

Unit Outcomes:

On successful completion of this unit, students will have - Encouraged, extended and updated the knowledge, appreciation and enjoyment of literature and non-fiction material for children and young adults. Examined the range of children's literature appropriate for early childhood and primary school contexts. Considered the selection and evaluation of different types of children's literature in early childhood and primary years. Explored trends and developments in the writing and publishing of books for children and young adults. Shared reading and teaching experiences and practical teaching and learning strategies for making reading attractive and relevant for children and young adults.
