Syllabus:Occupational therapy rehabilitation process and skills development for a selection of musculoskeletal, general medical and orthopaedic conditions. Developing knowledge in assessments, transfers, home visiting, seating, wheelchairs, hoists and ADL training techniques. Acquiring skills to prescribe and modify ADL equipment, involving interpersonal skills, interdisciplinary teams, clinical reasoning, activity analysis and adaptation.
 
Unit Outcomes: On successful completion of this unit students will be able to - Develop clinical reasoning skills to select and apply appropriate assessments and interventions in adult physical rehabilitation, including assistive devices, adaptive techniques and environmental modifications. Use task analysis to break down daily activities into performance components, in order to instruct the client in task completion, or grade and adapt the task and/or equipment appropriate to the client's needs. Develop the ability toselect and safely demonstrate appropriate manual handling skills for adults with disabilities. Demonstrate the ability to adapt levels of communication and/or instruction, to be appropriate for different clients and/or health professionals.
