Syllabus:	Global burden of disease in psychiatry. International classification systems and aetiology, symptomatology, and management of major psychiatric disorders across the life span. Implications of current interventions in relation to occupational performance. Psychiatry in a range of contexts. Psycho-pharmacology. Legislation
Unit Outcomes:	Upon completion of this unit students will be able to - Demonstrate an understanding of the global burden of disease impact of psychiatric disabilities, and of guiding policies and legislation. Apply international classification systems to describe a range of psychiatric disorders across the lifespan to relate aetiology and symptoms to impairments of function and the impact on participation and activity. Compare and contrast the role of psychiatry in mental health promotion, selected and targeted intervention, treatment and maintenance. Analyse the effects of current psychiatric interventions of the health care team on individuals with psychiatric disabilities and impact on occupational performance across a variety of settings.
