Syllabus:Families and individuals within socio-political and ecological contexts. Family systems and impact on health outcomes, protective and risk factors. Self-constructs and health. Theories and strategies of loss, stress, coping. Psychological and social theories applied in a diverse range of occupational therapy settings.
 
Unit Outcomes: Upon completion of this unit students will be able to - Critically analyse families and individuals within the current socio-political and ecological context, and the resulting influences on risk and/or protective factors. Apply an appropriate framework to analyse family systems and causal pathways leading to health outcomes. Explain and relate the principles of self-efficacy, self-esteem and competence, stress, adaptation and coping to individuals and families in their occupational contexts. Analyse theimpact of change and loss, and neglect and abuse on individuals and families. Critique and appropriately apply a range of psychological models of practice as used by occupational therapists in a range of settings.
