Syllabus:Continues to improve students' ability to communicate effectively in both formal and informal settings. Awareness of language variations and regional differences will be strengthened through newspaper readings, discussions on current affairs and the introduction of readings in the Chinese classical language. Students are encouraged to use the language skills that they have acquired to carry out research and independent study on social changes in Chinese-speaking communities.
 
Unit Outcomes: On successful completion of this unit, students will have- Attained a reasonable degree of competence in using a variety of appropriate and idiomatic expressions in formal and informal gatherings. Exchanged opinions and conducted discussions in Chinese on a variety of of social and cultural issues. Extracted information from chinese television programs and newspapers and reproduce main points orally and in writing. Demonstrated an ability to critically examine some issues on Chinese culture and society using Chinese reference material from newspapers or journals.
