Syllabus:Exploration of the strategies and practices that information professionals use to cope with the problems of deteriorating materials. These range form practical low-cost actions that may be implemented by every information professional in every kind of working environment, to strategies that can only be administered at a national, sometimes even international level.
 
Unit Outcomes: On successful completion of this unit, students will have- Identified the major causes of deterioration of information-bearing media used in information centres. Described current practices use and techniques used to counteract deterioration. Evaluated the preservation needs of an information centre. Developed a preservation programme for an information centre.
