Syllabus: | Economic aspects of the building industry and government policy affecting the industry. The current state of the industry in Western Australia. Location of industry and economic factors in establishing a construction organisation. Introduction to cost benefit analysis feasibility and cost planning of buildings. |

Unit Outcomes: | On successful completion of this unit, students will have- An understanding of the structure of the Australian construction industry. An understanding of how government policy can affect the construction industry. Knowledge of the factors, both internally and externally, that influence the economics of operating a contracting organisation. Knowledge of the factors affecting location of an industry as a whole and specifically related to contracting organisations. An understanding of how government policy can be used to affect the viability of contracting operations. The ability to determine when, why and how cost benefit analysis should be used. An understanding of the cost management process. Knowledge of the various tools available for cost planning. The ability to determine when and how these tools should be used. |
