Unit Outcomes: | On successful completion of this unit, students will have understood and appreciated the need and importance of food as a source of energy and building materials for fish. Explained the nutrient requirements of aquatic animals and the differences betweenaquatic and land animals. Understood principles of formulating and processing of fish feeds and the importance of feeding in aquaculture. Understood and appreciated basic metabolic processes in aquatic organisms, and utilisation of food energy. Identified effects of feeding strategies and other environmental influences on biomass production in aquaculture systems. Demonstrated skills in the diet preparation techniques, feed digestibility assessment and grow out dietary studies. Applied principles and methods of nutritional research in developing feeding strategies. Applied methods of statistical analysis to evaluate the differences between the diets in terms of growth outcomes. Demonstrated time management in completing tasks and in presenting material working as a team. |
