Syllabus: | Cytopreparatory techniques, cytological appearance of benign, precursor and malignant changes affecting the female genital tract. Anatomy, histology and cytology of major body systems. Pathology and cytology of common malignant tumours. Diagnostic cytopathology of urinary, gastrointestinal and respiratory tracts, serous and spinal fluids, fine needle aspiration cytodiagnosis. |

Unit Outcomes: | On successful completion of this unit students will have - Demonstrated knowledge of all the laboratory techniques necessary for cytological preparation and examination. Demonstrated basic knowledge of histology of organs from sites sampled for cytological evaluation. Defined and explained some basic pathological processes and the way in which they affect cells and tissues and discuss aspects relevant to laboratory investigation. Recognised and be able to report accurately the cytological manifestation of commonly encountered pathological changes seen in gynaecological and non-gynaecological smears. Demonstrated professional ethics in Medical Laboratory Science. |
