Syllabus:Survey Law - history of land law, systems of land tenure, acts and regulations relating to survey and administration of Crown land, freehold land, roads, public works,mining and local government. Licensed Surveyors Act and Regulations and Mining Regulations Act. Management - professional and legal responsibilities, professional ethics. Office procedures - filing, recording and reporting systems. Planning and organising survey activities. Quality assurance. Principles of management including budgeting andcost centres, def analysis, project evaluation and management, industrial relations, leadership, supervision and safety issues.
 
Unit Outcomes: On successful completion of this unit, students will have- Gained a comprehensive understanding of the role and day-to-day function of the surveying department within a mining operation. Covered the responsibilities of the chief surveyor.
