Syllabus:A framework for project management, its context and processes. Management of scope, time, cost, quality, communications and risk, as applied to IS/IT projects. Team development. Cost estimation techniques and tools. Standard setting and accreditation bodies. Use of a contemporary project management software package. Risk management (identification, assessment, monitoring and strategies).
 
Unit Outcomes: On successful completion of this unit, students will have - Applied a project management method to manage a small information systems project including preparing proposals, plans and reports. Participated effectively in a project team. An ability to apply appropriate project management software. An appreciation of a range of processes used in the management of projects. Developed foundation level skills in a range of techniques, tools and methods widely used and accepted for project management. Begun to develop critical faculties as evidenced by an ability to describe the limitations of the techniques introduced and the ability to use techniques as vehicles for conceputalisation, abstraction and thinking.
