Syllabus:An introduction to the artistic movements of the years between 1850 and 1960 with an emphasis on explaining the emergence of Modernism as an overriding cultural form. The art protagonists and their ideas of this movement are introduced in a framework of larger social upheavals of the time.
 
Unit Outcomes: On successful completion of this unit, students will have- An understanding of the emergence of Modernism as the major artistic force of the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries. Become familiar with the movements and ideas driving Modernism andwill have the ability to engage critically with these histories.
