Syllabus:An introduction to the basic structure of matter as a basis for health and safety theory and practice. Basic laws of chemistry, including gases, liquids, solids, solutions, and organic chemistry. Basic laws of physics, force motion and energy, the natureof sound and acoustics, light, electricity and nuclear physics.
 
Unit Outcomes: On successful completion of this unit students will have a basic knowledge of - general physics and an understanding of the physical properties, sound, light, magnetism, electricity and heat, general chemistry and be able to identify the different classes of chemicals and their properties. A general awareness of the fundamental principles of physics and chemistry as they may be applied to workplace situations.
