| Syllabus: | Overview of the work of the information sector and the various specialists tasks undertaken by information professionals. The use of computers and communication technologies to manage personal and professional information. It covers the basics of networked computing, evaluation of Internet resourses, database creation, data sharing and manipulation, image formats and multimedia, personal bibliograhic software, interactive use of the web computer security, ICT technologies and society. |

| Unit Outcomes: | On completion of this unit students will be able to- Describe the place of information in the modern world. Describe the basic sectors of the information industry. Detail the various stages of the evolution of information technology. Undertake basic computing tasks efficiently. Discuss the advantages and disadvantages of using information technology to manage information as a professional. Evaluate the functions of specialist professional software. Evaluate the effects of the development of information and communication technologies on society. |
