Syllabus: | Philosophy of science. Major research paradigms currently being advanced in nursing - positivist, interpretive and critical. Principles of scientific inquiry within these paradigms. Theoretical frameworks in the context of nursing and health care practice in Australia. Contributions from contemporary studies in areas such as phenomenology, feminist thought and critical social science. |

Unit Outcomes: | On successful completion of this unit students will have - Examined theoretical frameworks for nursing practice within the context of broader societal trends. Evaluated the principles of scientific inquiry from a nursing perspective. Analysed relevant contemporary health care issues and their implications for nursing. |
