Syllabus:Introduction to unit, curriculum perspective, academic rationalism, humanism, technological approach, cognitive processes, social reconstructionism, existentialism, deliberation, action research, curriculum practice, curriculum in Australia, new constructs, new paradigms, summary and evaluation.
 
Unit Outcomes: On successful completion of this unit students will have- Demonstrated a knowledge of a range of theoretical perspectives in the field of curriculum studies. Reviewed and analysed selected curriculum literature from these perspectives. Become familiar with the theory behind the main approaches to curriculum design and development. Identified and applied the major perspectives in current curriculum debate to your own administrative, research and teaching area. Developed the professional capacity to work independently or collaboratively on a curriculum project. Developed the skills and competencies to select, analyse, sythesise, relate and interpret curriculum literature in ways which contribute directly to the development a broad understanding of curriculum theory and perspectives.
