Syllabus:

Builds on the processes of previous units highlighting the specific applications in occupational health and safety management programs, using case studies from a range of organisations. Hazard identification performance indication risk assessment techniques, consultative structures and auditing.

Unit Outcomes:

On successful completion of this unit students will be able to - Demonstrate an understanding of contemporary issues and approaches and the integration of research contributions from a range of disciplines, in the management of occupational health and safety. The knowledge and skills necessary for resolving OHS issues and developing effective OHS management systems or programs. Understand the duties and processes involved in managing the health and safety function and the ways in which these can be most effectively and efficiently carried. Demonstrate an understanding of the design, implementation and maintenance of an occupational health and safety program or system. Apply current research information to the resolution of current and emerging OHS management issues using a participative framework. Analyse the significance of occupational health and safety communication, information, hazard management and other latent factors in the analysis of a major organisational accident.
