Syllabus:

Provides theoretical knowledge and practical experience in clinical child psychology. The course emphasises the aetiology, assessment, diagnosis, conceptualisation and treatment of clinical problems of children and adolescents. These problems will be considered within the relevant social context, such as the family, the school and children's friendships. Covers the most common child clinical problems as well as best practice and empirically validated intervention strategies.

Unit Outcomes:

On successful completion of this unit students will have - Developed knowledge and skills to assess, formulate and intervene in a variety of child and adolescent clinical problems. An understanding of the rationale and ethics of working with child and adolescent clinical problems. Developed skills in interviewing children, adolescents and their families. Developed skills in conceptualising the biological and psychosocial factors influencing the development and maintenance of clinical problems in children and adolescents. Developed knowledge and skills in effective assessment, intervention and prevention strategies used with children, adolescents and their families.
