MCom(Curtin)
Introduction
This course is designed to extend theoretical knowledge and associated techniques to a higher level. Students focus on one of the two areas, although coursework and research may be carried out in both areas. The degree is suitable for those who plan to pursue careers as professional economists or finance specialists in both public and private sectors or in academia.
Course Entry Requirements/Prerequisites
A Postgraduate Diploma in Business (Economics and Finance) with a course weighted average of 70 per cent, or an appropriate honours degree - first or upper second class.
Duration and Availability
The course is by research and normally requires one to two years full-time or equivalent part-time study.
Course Organisation
This course is studied as a research degree. The content of the degree should be determined in consultation with the Postgraduate Coordinator, School of Economics and Finance. Students without prior studies in research methods and statistical data analysis will be required to undertake relevant preparatory units. This will increase the stated course duration.
Additional Course Expenses
Students may be expected to purchase a number of textbooks, readers and other vital study materials. In addition, students may also need to contribute some of the cost of consumables, which varies depending on the area of study.
Special Note
The Curtin Business School provides facilities and benefits for those studying this course by research, including access to suitable computer facilities, office space, financial assistance to attend appropriate intra or interstate conferences and towards associated research costs. It is a requirement that two-thirds of this course is undertaken by research and only one-third by coursework. Students should not enrol in this research course to receive the Postgraduate Diploma in Business (Economics and Finance) but rather have undertaken it as a requisite for admission.
