Introduction
This course extends the range of options available for radiographers. It provides an opportunity for senior positions in radiology and radiotherapy departments to be awarded to radiographers who are able to demonstrate proven academic and practical ability. The course is designed to permit reasonable flexibility to make it adaptable to individual needs, but at the same time provide advanced knowledge in the basic disciplines of medical and physical sciences and medical imaging procedures.
Course Entry Requirements/Prerequisites
A qualification in therapeutic or diagnostic radiography at least at diploma level from a recognised institution, and at least two years continuous work experience at an appropriate level. Applicants without two years work experience are permitted to undertake fundamental units and proceed to graduate studies units and project after completing appropriate work experience.
Recognition of Prior Learning
Applications for recognition of prior learning are assessed on an individual basis. Published works, internal reports, conference papers, and consulting work may also form the basis for recognition of prior learning application.
Duration and Availability
This fee paying course is one year full-time or equivalent part-time study. However the majority of students undertake the course on a part-time basis.
Course Organisation
Students select from a number of broad areas or streams. They are the areas of advanced technique, administration and education. Within the advanced technique stream, a range of options are available to cater for the variety of specialisation areas now emerging, (ultrasound, nuclear medicine, CT and MRI). Irrespective of the stream or option selected, students must undertake a program which conforms with the following components a range of common fundamental units, a range of graduate studies units, and a medical radiography project and or clinical experience group of units. The course also permits a variable range of core or fundamental units and graduate studies units according to the particular stream selected. As well, a greater range of fundamental units have been included. The content of these units will vary according to the particular option being undertaken.
Additional Course Expenses
Students may be expected to purchase a number of textbooks, readers and other vital study materials. In addition, students may also need to contribute some of the cost of consumables, which varies depending on the area of study.
