Directed study and research. Geodynamics - geodetic and geophysical setting, terrestrial reference frames. Precise satellite positioning - fiducial global positioning system (GPS), satellite laser ranging, very long baseline interferometry. Plate tectonics and crustal deformation, vertical and horizontal movements, deformation at plate boundaries, loading and flexure, post glacial rebound, tide gauges and geoid modelling.
