Area: Department of Languages and Intercultural Education Contact Hours: 3.0 Credits: 25.0 Lecture: 1 x 2 Hours Weekly Tutorial: 1 x 1 Hours Weekly Exploration of the basic concepts in the study of language in society. The relationships between various facets of language and social organisation through two broard perspectives - macro-sociolinguistics which is concerned with what societies do with their languages, and micro-sociolinguistics which focuses on how social factors influence lanugage use.
