Introduction to engineering geology, rock substance and rock mass, Rock as a construction material, site investigations, the need for a site model, significance of groundwater, waste disposal and pollution, open pit mines and cuttings, slope stability, tunnels and underground mines. Geohazards - seismicity, landslides, slope stability, subsidence, swelling soils, various other geohazards. Dams, reservoirs and spillways, tailings dams, case histories. Building and bridge foundations, highways, railways, pipelines, power lines, site investigations. Coastal limestones of WA, lateritic weathering, laboratory and in situ testing of soils and rocks. Offshore structures, ports and dredging, environmental geology.
