Chemistry is an essential subject which students need to learn to understand key concepts of life sciences. This unit aims to broadly cover most aspects of chemistry relevant to life sciences. It is not intended to provide in depth coverage of chemistry and is necessarily general in its approach. The unit was designed to gently introduce, and prepare, the student for subsequent units in the life sciences degree course. The emphasis is for the student to become familiar with the language of chemistry. It is designed for students with little previous knowledge of chemistry, although knowledge of chemistry equivalent to Year 12 would be an advantage. Students are expected to do a lot of reading, some practical work, and one project. |
